Air Fryer Chocolate Dipped Bananas
Why this recipe works
- Fast dessert: The bananas need only a few minutes in the air fryer before dipping, keeping the full recipe comfortably under 30 minutes.
- Soft, crisp contrast: Warm banana, set dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts create a clear contrast between tender fruit, smooth coating and crunchy topping.
- Short ingredient list: Banana, chocolate, coconut oil and nuts are enough to build sweetness, richness and texture without a complicated preparation.

Ingredient notes
- Choose firm bananas: Use bananas that are ripe but still firm, so they soften gently in the air fryer while keeping their shape for dipping.
- Use baking chocolate: Dark baking chocolate melts more smoothly than many eating chocolates and gives a cleaner, glossier coating.
- Hazelnut texture: Finely chopped hazelnuts cling better to the chocolate and give a more even crunch in each bite.
Texture tips
- Do not over-soften the banana: Air-fry only until the pieces are warmed through and just beginning to soften; if they collapse, they will be harder to coat neatly.
- Let the chocolate thicken slightly: After melting, a short cool-down helps the chocolate cling to the banana instead of running straight off.
Make-ahead tips
- Prepare shortly before serving: These can be made ahead and chilled, but the texture is best when served the same day.
- Chill to set the coating: If the room is warm, refrigerate the dipped bananas briefly until the chocolate is firm.
- Avoid reheating: Serve chilled or let them stand briefly at room temperature; reheating will melt the chocolate coating.

Instructions
- Peel the bananas and cut each into 4 even pieces. Finely chop the hazelnuts and set aside.
- Heat the air fryer to 180°C (355°F). Air-fry the banana pieces for 3 to 4 minutes until warmed through and just starting to soften but still holding their shape.
- Meanwhile, melt the dark chocolate with the coconut oil in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth and glossy. Take off the heat and let it cool for 1 minute so it thickens slightly for dipping.
- Dip each warm banana piece into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Sprinkle with the chopped hazelnuts and set on a plate to firm up at room temperature, or chill briefly until the chocolate is set.
Recipe notes
Tips
- Choose ripe but firm bananas so they warm through in the air fryer without collapsing.
- If the chocolate starts to thicken before you finish dipping, warm it gently over the saucepan for 20 to 30 seconds, stirring until smooth again.
Substitutions
- Replace Hazelnuts with Sliced almonds for a milder nut flavour and lighter crunch.
Storage
- Refrigerate up to 2 days
- Store in a single layer in an airtight container in the fridge. Serve cool, or let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes; reheating is not recommended as the chocolate will melt.
