Orange Blossom Lemonade (Moroccan-Style)
Why this recipe works
- Fast to mix: The sugar is dissolved directly into cold water, so the lemonade comes together quickly without making a hot syrup.
- Balanced sharpness: Sweetened water softens the bite of fresh lemon juice while keeping the drink clean and citrus-led.
- Light floral finish: Orange blossom water adds aroma rather than heaviness, giving the lemonade a distinctive Moroccan-style perfume.

Ingredient notes
- Use orange blossom water carefully: It is highly aromatic, so add it gradually and stop when the lemonade smells lightly floral rather than soapy or overpowering.
- Choose juicy lemons: Firm, heavy lemons usually give a brighter flavour and better yield than dry or tired fruit.
- Adjust to the lemons: Very sharp lemons may need a little extra dissolved sugar; taste after mixing and adjust before serving.
Timing notes
- Chill for a colder drink: The lemonade can be served straight away, but a short chill in the fridge makes it crisper and more refreshing.
- Add ice at the last moment: Pour over fresh ice just before serving so the drink stays cold without becoming diluted.
Make-ahead tips
- Make the base ahead: Mix the lemonade without ice and keep it covered in the fridge until ready to serve.
- Stir before pouring: Give the chilled lemonade a quick stir before serving, especially if it has been stored for a day or two.

Instructions
- Put the caster sugar in a mixing bowl and add about 250 ml of the water. Whisk until the sugar dissolves, then whisk in the remaining water.
- Juice the lemons and whisk the juice into the sweetened water. Stir in the orange blossom water, then taste and add a touch more if you want a stronger perfume.
- Divide the ice cubes between 4 glasses. Pour over the lemonade and serve straight away, or chill for 30 minutes for an extra-cold drink.
Recipe notes
Tips
- Add the orange blossom water gradually and stop as soon as it smells floral; it should be a background note, not the main flavour.
- If your lemons are very sharp, dissolve an extra spoonful of caster sugar in a little water first, then stir it in to taste.
Substitutions
- Replace caster sugar with honey for a rounder sweetness; whisk it into the water until fully dissolved before adding the lemon juice.
Storage
- Refrigerate up to 3 days
- Store the lemonade (without ice) in a covered jug in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir before serving, then pour over fresh ice cubes.
