Air Fryer BBQ Pork Chops
Why this recipe works
- Fast cooking: The air fryer cooks thick bone-in pork chops quickly and evenly, making this a practical weeknight method.
- Smoky-sweet glaze: Smoked paprika and garlic season the meat before barbecue sauce adds sweetness, tang and caramelised edges.
- Simple timing: The sauce is added only at the end, so it has time to turn sticky without scorching.

Timing notes
- Take the chill off: Let the pork chops sit out briefly before cooking so they air fry more evenly from edge to centre.
- Rest before serving: A short rest helps the juices settle, giving the chops a better texture when sliced.
Texture tips
- Keep the chops juicy: Use the first air-fry stage to cook the pork almost through, then glaze in the final minutes rather than cooking the sauce for the full time.
- Adjust for thinner chops: If your chops are thinner than about 2.5 cm, shorten the initial cooking stage to reduce the risk of dryness.
Ingredient notes
- Choose bone-in chops: Bone-in pork chops are well suited to this method because they hold moisture and give a satisfying, meaty finish.
- Paprika choice: Smoked paprika reinforces the barbecue flavour; sweet paprika gives a gentler, less smoky result.
Make-ahead tips
- Reheat gently: Reheat cooked chops in the air fryer at 180°C (355°F) until piping hot, adding a little extra barbecue sauce if needed.
- Freezer-friendly: Cool completely, freeze in a sealed container, and defrost overnight in the fridge before reheating.

Ingredients
Instructions
- Take the pork chops out of the fridge 10 minutes before cooking. Pat dry, then rub all over with the olive oil. Mix the salt, pepper, smoked paprika and ground garlic, then season the chops on both sides.
- Heat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F). Arrange the chops in a single layer and air fry for 8 minutes, turning halfway, until they are nearly cooked through.
- Brush the tops of the chops with half the barbecue sauce. Air fry for 2 minutes, then turn, brush with the remaining sauce and cook for 2 minutes more, until the glaze is sticky and starting to caramelise at the edges.
- Rest the chops on a plate for 5 minutes so the juices settle. Serve straight away, spooning any resting juices over the top.
Recipe notes
Tips
- For the stickiest glaze, brush on the barbecue sauce only in the final minutes so it caramelises without burning.
- If your chops are thinner than about 2.5 cm, reduce the first air-fry stage by 2 to 3 minutes to avoid drying them out.
Substitutions
- Replace Smoked paprika with Sweet paprika for a milder, less smoky flavour.
- Replace Olive oil with Canola oil if you want a more neutral taste.
Storage
- Refrigerate up to 3 days
- Cool, then refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 3 days. Freeze for up to 2 months; defrost overnight in the fridge. Reheat in the air fryer at 180°C (355°F) for 4 to 6 minutes until piping hot, brushing with a little extra barbecue sauce if you have it.
