Air Fryer Eggs and Bacon Breakfast
Why this recipe works
- Fast cooked breakfast: The air fryer crisps the bacon and bakes the eggs in a short, controlled cooking time.
- Crisp bacon contrast: Cooking the bacon first gives it a crisp edge that balances the soft eggs and melted cheese.
- Easy portion control: Ramekins keep the eggs contained, making it easier to cook neat individual servings.

Timing notes
- Take the chill off the eggs: Very cold eggs can take longer to set, so letting them sit briefly at room temperature helps the whites cook more evenly.
- Serve straight away: The eggs continue to firm up in the hot ramekins, so serve them as soon as the whites are set to your liking.
- Best freshly cooked: The bacon is crispest and the eggs have the best texture immediately after cooking.
Texture tips
- For crisper bacon: Keep the rashers in a single layer so the hot air can circulate around them properly.
- Watch the eggs closely: Check the ramekins towards the end of cooking, as yolks can move from soft to firm quickly in the air fryer.
Ingredient notes
- Streaky bacon works well here: Its higher fat content helps it crisp in the air fryer and gives the breakfast a richer flavour.
- Use sturdy bread: Sourdough is a good match because it stands up well to butter, eggs and bacon without turning soft too quickly.
Equipment you'll need
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F). Arrange the streaky bacon in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, turning once, until crisp to your liking.
- Lift the bacon to a plate. Lightly grease two ramekins with a little of the unsalted butter. Crack 2 eggs into each ramekin, then top with the cheddar cheese.
- Place the ramekins in the air fryer and cook at 180°C (355°F) for 6 to 9 minutes, until the whites are set and the yolks are cooked to your liking. Sprinkle with the fresh chives. Serve with the bacon.
- Toast the sourdough bread, then spread with the remaining unsalted butter. Serve alongside the eggs and bacon straight away.
Recipe notes
Tips
- For reliably set whites, let the eggs sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before cooking, especially if they are very cold from the fridge.
- Eggs and bacon are best served immediately; the eggs will continue to cook in the hot ramekins.
- If serving anyone vulnerable, use eggs with the British Lion mark and cook until both whites and yolks are fully set.
Substitutions
- Replace Cheddar cheese with Parmesan for a sharper, saltier finish.
- Replace Fresh chives with Fresh parsley for a fresher, herby topping.
Storage
- Refrigerate up to 1 days
- Cool and refrigerate leftovers in a sealed container for up to 1 day. Reheat the bacon in the air fryer at 190°C (375°F) for 2 to 3 minutes; reheat the eggs gently at 160°C (320°F) for 3 to 5 minutes until piping hot, noting the yolks will cook further.
