Kiwi Banana Smoothie Bowl
Why this recipe works
- Fast breakfast: Everything is blended and assembled in about 10 minutes, making it practical for a quick morning meal.
- Thick and spoonable: Greek yoghurt, ripe banana, and blitzed oats give the bowl enough body to hold toppings well.
- Bright, balanced flavour: Kiwi and optional lime cut through the creaminess, while banana and honey can soften the tang if needed.

Timing notes
- Serve straight away: The bowl is best eaten cold immediately after blending, before the fruit loosens and the toppings soften.
- Best on the day: It can be chilled briefly if needed, but the freshest texture and colour are best the same day.
Ingredient notes
- Use ripe fruit: A ripe banana gives sweetness and body, while ripe kiwi blends more smoothly and tastes less sharp.
- Add citrus carefully: Lime or lemon should be added gradually, as too much can thin the bowl and dominate the kiwi.
Texture tips
- For a thicker bowl: Keep the yoghurt well chilled and avoid over-blending once the mixture is smooth.
- For a smoother finish: Blitz the oats first before adding the fruit and yoghurt so they disperse evenly through the bowl.
Ingredient swaps
- Swap the sweetener: Use maple syrup instead of honey for a softer, more caramel-like sweetness.
- Change the citrus: Lemon can replace lime if that is what you have, giving a similar fresh lift.

Instructions
- Add the rolled oats to a blender and blitz to a coarse powder. Tip into a bowl and set aside.
- Peel the banana and 1 kiwi, then add them to the blender with the Greek yogurt and the blitzed oats. Blend until thick and smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
- Taste and, if you want it sweeter, blend in the honey. If you want it brighter, squeeze in a little lime juice and blend again.
- Pour into a serving bowl. Peel and slice the remaining kiwi and use it to top the bowl, along with a few slices of banana if you like.
- Sprinkle over the chia seeds and serve straight away while cold. If the mixture loosens as it stands, give it a quick stir before eating.
Recipe notes
Tips
- For the thickest, spoonable texture, use very ripe fruit and keep the Greek yogurt cold until blending.
- Add the lime juice a little at a time: too much can thin the texture and overpower the fruit.
Substitutions
- Replace the lime with lemon for a similar citrus lift.
- Replace the honey with maple syrup for a different style of sweetness.
Storage
- Refrigerate up to 1 days
- Best eaten straight away. If needed, cover and chill for up to 24 hours; stir well before serving as it will thicken and may weep slightly.
